Calling all artists! Do you love the WDM Public Library? Show your creativity and library love by designing new library cards! In celebration of National Library Week this April, we’re inviting community members of all ages to submit their best designs for a chance to have their artwork featured on official, limited-edition library cards.
Our library director, Traci, will select one winning design from three different age groups: kids (0-11 years), teens (12-17 years), and adults (18+ years).
How to Participate:
- Pick up a blank library card template at any of our service desks, or download one here.
- Let your imagination run wild! Use any art style or theme that showcases what the library means to you.
- Once your design is complete, submit it by either:
- Turning it in at one of our service desks
- Emailing it to us at library@wdm.iowa.gov
Be bold, be creative, and most importantly, have fun! Whether you highlight your favorite books, celebrate the joy of reading, or illustrate what makes the library special, we can’t wait to see your artistic talents in action.
Submissions are due by April 30. The winning designs will be printed on real library cards for our patrons to use, so grab your pencils, markers, or digital tools and start designing today!

Library Card Design Contest Guidelines
Eligibility:
- Open to three age groups: Kids (o-11), Teens (12-17), and Adults (18+).
- Participants must submit their own original artwork.
Design Requirements:
- Designs must fit within the provided template (available at service desks or on our website).
- Designs should reflect a love of libraries, books, reading, and/or the West Des Moines community.
- Designs should not contain copyrighted material, offensive language, or inappropriate images.
Submission Process:
- Submit completed designs by April 30 either:
- In person at a library service desk
- Via email to library@wdm.iowa.gov (preferred file formats: JPEG, PNG, or PDF)
Selection & Usage:
- The West Des Moines Public Library's Director, Traci Glass, will select one winner from each age group. The Director’s decision is final.
- Winning designs will be printed on official library cards available to the public.
- The library reserves the right to make minor adjustments to the winning design to fit printing specifications.
Copyright & Compensation:
- All submissions must be original and created by the participant.
- By submitting a design, participants grant the West Des Moines Public Library a perpetual and irrevocable the right to reproduce, modify or use their submission for any purpose s without further permission from the participants and without any compensation or attribution to participants. The West Des Moines Public Library retains all rights in West Des Moines Public Library’s intellectual property rights.
