Event Details
Are you sometimes struck by a beautiful leaf or feather that you find on a nature walk? Kathy E. Esch, BFA, will teach the art of nature journaling in this introductory session. Using the versatile pencil, attendees will be introduced to the techniques of drawing the natural world in sketchbooks and learn to see light and shadow on objects that describe the shape and texture. She will show how to note size and unique characteristics and enter measurements of the leaves, cones and bark in journals.
Kathy will bring several natural objects as reference to draw from, including branches, feathers, cones, stones, leaves and dried natural matter. Attendees will work separately and quietly, rotating to new tables with new objects to draw. During the drawing time, Kathy will talk about the journaling with words about experience of being with nature... sounds, feeling the wind and sun, temperature and sounds, what animals visited or bird songs we heard. Participants will have an opportunity to talk about their experience or show their recordings at the end.
Registration is requested, please. This program is for attendees 18 and older. You are welcome to bring your own journal and pencil(s), but the Library will also supply basic journals and pencils.
