Computers are everywhere, changing every industry on the planet. But fewer than half of all schools today teach computer science. To help address this, the Hour of Codeā¢ was started as a nationwide initiative by Computer Science Education Week [csedweek.org] and Code.org [code.org] to introduce millions of students to one hour of computer science and computer programming.
To celebrate Computer Science Education Week, the West Des Moines Public Library and YouthCode will be hosting a Hour of Code workshop on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, from 4:15 to 5:15pm. Individuals age 6 to 14 are welcome to come and receive an introductory experience with coding and computer science in a safe, supportive environment. Students choose themes of Minecraft, Moana or Star Wars for their hands-on coding project. No prior experience needed but familiarity with a computer keyboard and mouse is helpful. Parents, we encourage you to enjoy this learning experience with younger students. Registration required.
