Event Details
On September 29, 1864, two brigades of United States Colored Troops charged Confederate earthworks outside Richmond, Virginia, driving the Confederates from their lines, leaving hundreds of their own dead and wounded on the field. Fourteen Black men received the Medal of Honor for their courageous actions, the most awarded to Black soldiers for a single action. Join author and historian Jeff Kluever as he tells the stories of former slaves and freemen who fought valiantly for a country that did not yet consider them citizens and inspired his new book “Freedom Will Be Theirs by the Sword.”
