Did you know that in 1917, 1,250 men came to Des Moines to be part of an experiment?  This was the first officer training camp for Black men in United States military history. Over 600 of these men earned their commissions at Fort Des Moines and served honorably overseas during World War I. Decades later, Fort Des Moines hosted another group of ground-breaking individuals – the first class of women to attend officer training camp in United States military history. In this presentation, learn more about how these individuals not only changed the face of the U.S. military, but left a legacy of service long after leaving the uniform behind.

We are happy to welcome Jeff Kluever from Fort Des Moines to present on this important piece of Iowa history!
